The XVI ISBCW will be held at the city of Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, which is located in north-eastern Argentina, amidst the Parana Atlantic Forest, in Misiones province. Argentina and Brazil created the Iguazú National Park to preserve this neotropical biodiversity hotspot.
The Iguazú National Park, located only 17 km from the city of Puerto Iguazú, together with its sister park Iguaçu in Brazil, is among the world’s most stunning natural sites for its colossal Iguazú waterfalls. They were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1984, and in 2011 they were chosen as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The Iguazú River, drops vertically some 80 meters in a series of falls almost 3 km wide. The river, aptly named after the indigenous term for “great water” forms a large bend in the shape of a horseshoe in the heart of the two parks, which also constitutes the international border between Argentina and Brazil before it flows into the mighty Parana River, fewer than 25 km downriver from the park.
Large clouds of spray permanently soak the many islets and the surrounding riverine forest, creating an extremely humid micro-climate favouring lush and dense sub-tropical vegetation that harbours a diverse fauna. The surrounding subtropical rainforest has over 2,000 species of vascular plants and is home to the typical wildlife of the region: tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars and caimans.
There are no international flights that arrive directly at Puerto Iguazú airport. This means that depending on your itinerary, you can arrive at either Buenos Aires International Airport in Argentina (EZE) or at Foz do Iguaçu Airport (IGU) in Brazil, and from there, you will need to continue to Puerto Iguazú by plane from Buenos Aires and by taxi/car from Foz do Iguaçu.
A) ARRIVING AT PUERTO IGUAZÚ AIRPORT THROUGH BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
There are two airports in Buenos Aires: Ministro Pistarini Ezezia (EZE, international) and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP, domestic) which are 34 Km apart. International flights arrive at Ministro Pistarini international airport (EZE) which is in Ezeiza, around 35 Km southwest of Buenos Aires.
Aerolineas Argentinas offers direct fights to Puerto Iguazú (IGR) more frequently from the domestic airport (Jorge Newbery (AEP) but there are options to fly directly from Ministro Pistarini Ezezia (EZE) too. You can also find low cost airlines providing the same route. Always check if these flights include luggage.

Transfers between Ministro Pistarini Ezezia (EZE, international) and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP, domestic)
You can transfer between airports by taxi, shuttles or public bus.
The quickest way to get from EZE to AEP is by taxi. You will find taxi stands right after you pass customs (before exiting to the public area) where you can hire taxis on the spot, and pay in advance with your credit card. We recommend these services.
You can also take a direct shuttle bus between airports. Services depart hourly, and operate every day. Find more information at https://www.tiendaleon.com/ where you can also book in advance although it is not necessary.
We don’t recommend taking the public bus since it will take approx. 2hs 30 to get to AEP.
Arriving at Puerto Iguazú airport (IGU)
When arriving at Puerto Iguazú airport, you will find well organized shuttle buses and taxis that travel to Puerto Iguazú city in 35 min. You can also previously arrange transfers with “Turismo Cuenca del Plata” which provides quick and safe transportation to your hotel in Iguazú (comercial@cuencadelplata.com).
We don’t recommend taking the public bus, this can make the trip a bit of a hassle, to get on and off with luggage, especially if it is peak time and the bus is packed with locals traveling for work on nearby.
B) ARRIVING AT PUERTO IGUAZÚ THROUGH FOZ DO IGUAÇU, BRAZIL
If you arrive at the airport of the neighbouring city of Foz do Iguazu (Brazil), you can take a taxi at the airport to cross the border to Puerto Iguazú, Misiones, Argentina. This trip takes about 45 minutes and costs around 15-20 USD. You can also book in advance a transfer service with “Turismo Cuenca del Plata” which provides quick and safe transportation to your hotel in Iguazú (comercial@cuencadelplata.com).

To enter Argentina, you will need a passport valid for at least six months at the time of entering Argentina. Citizens of the following countries only need to present an identity card or a valid travel document: Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

If you are planning on staying some time in Buenos Aires city before or after the symposium, this information may be of help.
To travel by bus or subte (underground metro) in Buenos Aires, you will need to get a rechargeable SUBE travel card and charge it with credit. SUBE cards are available at subte stations, at eight Tourist Assistance Centers and at many “kioskos” (corner shops selling confectionary and tobacco) throughout the city. Cards can be charged with credit at all subte stations, national lottery outlets, and at some kioskos with automated terminals. To find your nearest point of sale, the SUBE website has a map of SUBE vendors.
There are six metro lines (líneas) A, B, C, D, E and H, which connect the city’s main avenues, train stations and coach stations. Lines A, B, C, D and E converge in the centre of the city.
Note that Uber is also available in Buenos Aires. You may download the app at www.uber.com. Another similar and trustworthy app is Cabify.
There are currently no COVID restrictions in place in Argentina, but with the changing situation, you may eventually be required to show proof of vaccination on arrival, so we recommend you bring them in case of changes.

Travellers from countries with yellow fever may be required to show proof of vaccination. Also, yellow fever vaccination is recommended when travelling to the provinces of Corrientes and Misiones in Argentina. The vaccine should preferably be applied 10 days before the travel date. A single dose is enough to protect you for life.
